Affordable Supply and Equity

Who are the people in affordable housing units?

Who are the vulnerable Canadians who have access and who doesn’t?

The NHS has set out specific goals on how its housing initiatives and funding will help key vulnerable groups, including women and children fleeing domestic violence; seniors; Indigenous peoples; people with disabilities; those dealing with mental health and addiction issues; veterans; LGBTQ2+; racialized groups; newcomers and refugees; individuals and families experiencing homelessness; and young adults. Currently, no existing metrics exist to track who lives in affordable units, or whether the objectives of the NHS surrounding equity have been met. This is the most difficult data challenge the CHEC Affordable Housing Monitor is facing and will be explored in 2021-2023, if successful.
